Once upon a time, a baker sat up late making a cute little trio of pumpkins. She was pleased with her pumpkins, promised to put them on a cake in the morning. Then she put them up in a high cupboard where her son, a voracious forager, would not find them.

The next day, the baker packed up some cake, and some icing, and set forth to visit her mother. And lo, the pumpkins were left behind. Only when her journey was nearly complete did the baker realize her mistake, and then she was sad. She carried on, however, and shared her cake with her mother, and her mother’s guests, and it was quite delicious. And only the baker, and the baker’s husband,  knew how much sweeter the cake would have been, had it not been missing it’s pumpkins.
